Resume writing practices: let doubts be your guide!

Do you doubt if a resume that you drawn up on your own have chances to stand out? Did you receive merely few replies from employers in spite you have been emailing it for more than a month?

If so, let the doubts be your guide!

The Apoling Solutions’ resume writers developed the list of useful insights that we believe would be somewhat supportive for people who wish to objectively analyze their own resume writing:

    1. A resume should fit ONE PAGE. Do not go too far by two, three, four or five page resume – it will look like a never – ending mind-numbing novels. In accordance with statistics, employers do not have a lot of time in disposition, and spend from 5 to 10 seconds for reading a single resume. Therefore, it must be created the way to coax his/her curiosity right after he/she open it.

  1. A resume is a BUSINESS DOCUMENT. Thus, it must be placed in an elegant format. God forbid overloading your resume by “over creative” features. Excessive use of bullets or numbering, playing with different font styles and sizesresume-writing-mistakes-300x300 will do no good for you, because they will distract employers’ attention. Instead of putting an eye on your skills and experience he/she will be lost in your “arts.”
  2. A resume must contain neither grammar mistakes nor linguistic blunders, and punctuation should be used properly. Otherwise, it will create an impression that a person who takes his/her own document too lightly will treat his/her job responsibilities just the same.
  3. REPEATED WORDS and alike descriptions of your responsibilities even if you were employed in the same position with various employers, are absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. Be imaginative, have fun with words, expressions and sentences. The more resourceful your resume is the more chances you have to convince a potential employer to arrange an interview with you. Creative people have been always in high demand.
  4. DO NOT ATTACH ANY PICTURES to your resume. Photo of yours is a great attachment. It might even produce a positive impression on people who see it on social websites. It might also be pleasing to the eye, but not to the employers’ eye. Maybe, in some European countries, in Russia and Ukraine such practices are generally used, but employers in the USA will consider such photo attachment as a lack of professional ethics.
